I makes videos. I also blog about things. This is where you can read and watch most of it. ...Okay, all of it.

Tron: Legacy. A movie I’ve been waiting for since I first heard about it on the web. When the teaser trailer first aired, I was already in line to see, what I thought was gonna be a groundbreaking film. For mouths I would watch & read as much information about the movie as I could. This was my undoing…
December 16th, 2010. I’ve purchased my midnight ticket for the Real 3D version of the movie. I’m with my good friend @rescuethecows and we’re sitting in the theater waiting for the movie to start. Now because of the long wait, before the movie, I had loaded Scott Pilgrim vs The World on my iPhone 4. Love that movie.
Finally the clock strikes midnight and we’re told to put on our 3D glasses. But before the movie starts, text appears on the screen, informing us that the only some parts were in 3D because it was originally shot in 2D.
That’s one!
So the movie gets started and …Wait, I should pause right here: if you plan on seeing the movie stop reading now. I won’t give EVERYTHING away, but I am gonna drop some spoilers.
Okay, So the movie actually starts and we see a young Kevin Flynn played by a digital version of Jeff & his son. There’s a moment where Sam wants to go with his dad, but of course his dad says no. Then we see a series of footage of Digital Jeff and news caster saying his missing. Standard stuff, right?
The movie KIND OF moves at a slow pace, but it has a fast start. What I mean is, it doesn’t take long for Sam Flynn to go from doing crazy stunts to being transported to the digital world. Now this is where the 3D actually kicks in.
Much like the original movie, Sam gets put in a “game” pretty fast upon arrive in The Grid. Once the Programs figure out he’s a “User” they take him to see Clu, which is played by?! Yes, you guessed it. Digital Jeff.
Double casting anyone?!
Then Sam is in a light-bikes battle and right around this time, the only redeeming thing about the movie happens. Olivia Wilde come in. Let me just say: hothothothothothothothothothot! So she comes in, saves the day and then: story development? Wrong. Just a poor attempt at trying to explain why things are so bad. Of course all this is explained by Actual Jeff and he reveals “New Life” in The Grid. “Something that will change the world” At this point, we’re hoping for explanation at what this junk could be. Let me just tell you right now. No one knows. Not even the writers know.
After much pointlessness we figure out that Sam need to get back to the real world and stop Clu from getting out. Never mind this new life we’ve discover. So simple enough story right? But wait?! Where’s Tron?!
You figure out pretty quickly who Tron is and if you’re looking for a redemption story arc, you’re better off watching Return of the Jedi.
In the end, they destroy Clu with, what seemed to be extreme ease, and Sam is able to return home with, Yes you guessed it, Olivia Wilde’s character. I’m not really gonna get into that story arc because the very thought of it makes me want to punch babies.
What I got from this movie was: “Let’s make some money. Oh and make the audience want a part three to explain this garbage we just showed them.” I had so much hope for this movie and it just fell wicked short. But what’s even more sad is that when it comes out on Blu-Ray, I’ll probably buy it.
I wish I could have walked away from this movie with that excited feeling I get when watching something truly epic. But man, ask Loren. I was really disappointed. If you really want to see: go for it. I’m not gonna suggest you don’t. You might just enjoy trash. Haha.
I would add more, but it’s almost 4am and I’ve already wasted too much time on this garbage. Maybe I need another viewing of the movie in 2D to really focus on the story, but I really don’t think it will help.
Either way, I’m out!
